About Richard & Min Vondrak
Richard Benjamin “Dick” Vondrak was born on January 11, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. Richard served 26 years in the United States Air Force, ultimately achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service spanned periods of the Cold War, which included active duty during the Korean War. Min was born on January 7, 1937, as U Sun Min in Sizu-Oka City, Japan, to Korean parents. At the age of 27, she resided in Gyeonggi-do province of South Korea in Seoul, where she and Richard met and married on December 22, 1964. Richard was described by business partners and friends as a man of immense patience and wisdom who “saw light where others saw darkness.” Richard passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Min had a long career in the accounting/finance field, but her true passion was art. Min was a very talented artist and created many beautiful pieces. Min passed away peacefully at the age of 87.

Richard and Min had a deep devotion to the United States military, educational advancement, and helping those in need. It is because of their commitment to these values that the Richard & Min Vondrak Foundation was established.Embodying their legacy, the Foundation strives to honor the service and sacrifice of United States military members, and veterans, by providing scholarships that help individuals achieve their highest educational and professional potential. In addition, the Foundation is dedicated to expanding access to educational opportunities by offering scholarships to economically disadvantaged students whose financial circumstances might otherwise prevent them from pursuing their academic goals.Through the Foundation’s “A Helping Hand” program, we provide temporary, needs-based emergency assistance to military members, veterans, and other individuals facing unexpected financial hardships. Whether due to a medical emergency, job loss, or other unforeseen crisis, this support helps families stabilize their circumstances and move forward with dignity and hope.As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation also partners with nonprofit organizations by providing grants and donations that strengthen their ability to serve their communities and fulfill their missions. Through these efforts, the Foundation seeks to create lasting opportunities, provide critical support during times of need, and improve the lives of those facing financial and personal challenges.
